A different Hudson River every season.
High spring flows, warmer summer runs and fall color change the way the Gorge feels. Choose the season that fits your crew.
Spring · April & May
Spring is the Hudson’s high-water season in the operator’s FAQ, with mostly Class IV rapids. The river is colder, wetsuits matter and the guide’s directions are especially important. Extremely high water can require prior experience and adults-only participation; call to confirm the day’s requirements.
Summer · Family river days
Summer generally brings warm water and mostly Class III rapids. It is a popular choice for families, but “summer” does not mean every guest is automatically eligible. The published rule of thumb is age 6+ with an adult; size, weight and actual conditions can affect the decision.
July and August often book far ahead. Check the current trip calendar for dates, and contact us before reserving for young children or a nervous first-time rafter.
Fall · Foliage & Class III+ whitewater
The river rises again in fall in the operator’s seasonal description. Cooler air and changing leaves accompany Class III+ whitewater. Dress for the water as well as the air: synthetic or wool insulation, warm socks and a hat go with the supplied wetsuit on cooler days.
Same trip, changing conditions
The published Hudson Gorge trip is 17 miles, Class III–IV, April–October. Spring and summer rapid ratings differ, and water level can change the route, suitability or pace. Do not plan around a fixed class number without checking the guides’ advice.
